Who is Tyler?

Taiwanese-American Professional Tennis Player

About Tyler

My name is Tyler Lu, and I graduated from Yale in 2017. I played #1 singles my entire career, voted All-Ivy First Team Singles 3 times, and was awarded Ivy League Player of the Year in 2017. During my career at Yale, I was selected as ITA Northeast Region Rookie of the Year in 2013, compiled over 70 wins in my career, and served as captain for the Yale Men’s Tennis Team in 2016-2017. Currently I am 966 in the world in singles and have won a Futures doubles title.

Where Tyler's From

I was born in Spokane, Washington on August 12, 1995. I grew up playing baseball, basketball, and soccer, along with violin and piano, before falling in love with tennis fairly late at age 12. I did not start for my high school varsity tennis team my freshman year, but eventually became a blue-chip recruit and committed to Yale. My success at Yale has given me the confidence to pursue my dream of playing professional tennis.

What Tyler's Doing Now

I just graduated in May 2017, and am starting the pro tour grind. I'm traveling the world playing ITF Futures as I try to climb the ATP Rankings ladder. I am based out of Southern California.

What Tyler Hopes to Achieve

Professional tennis never crossed my mind until my last couple years at Yale. I continue to fall more and more in love with the sport, and I am grateful everyday for the opportunity to even have a shot at chasing my dream. Being the best tennis player I can be is my motivation to wake up every morning.
